Based on “New Challenge” News, One month has been passed. The first welding of Nickel 200 bushing & 410 Stainless steel shaft by TIG and by laser has come to the end. This is based on both parts finish machining completely as drawing dimension and tolerance requirement before welding. But unluckily, Nickel 200 bushing deformed obviously, over 0.1mm than tolerance. Declare “ FAILURE”.
Of course the initial idea of most people is doing rough machining to the Nickel bushing, then do further machining after welding. But the problem is there is no groove between bushing and shaft for welding, if as above idea, welding scar is easy to machine off, and leave a step. Maybe it will bring air tightness problem. In another hand, the knife head for inside diameter machining is very small, the production rate is much lower, increase machining cost at the same time. So it seems not a good idea.
Now it is still in trial process, we want to make adjustments in welding. The aim is the deforming of nickel bushing is in control.

Helium is the best choice of tracer gas to find leaks for a number of reasons. It is non-toxic, inert, non-condensable, non-flammable and not normally present in the atmosphere at more than trace amounts (5 ppm). Due to its small atomic size, helium passes easily through leaks. The only molecule smaller than Helium is Hydrogen which is not inert. It is also relatively inexpensive and is available in various size cylinders.
